George Halik, AIA, LEED AP
George joined Booth Hansen in 1995 and was named a Director and Principal in 2001. With significant depth of project management experience spanning numerous building types, he is consistently tapped to lead the firm’s largest and most complex assignments.
While he has worked on a broad spectrum of project types, George gravitates toward community-based initiatives. He has devoted countless hours working with community stakeholders, government leaders, and neighborhood residents to develop high quality housing and community facilities. Residential/mixed-use projects range from Oakwood Shores, a mixed-income development on Chicago’s south side, to Fountain Square, a mixed-use high rise proposed for north suburban Evanston, Illinois. Community gathering spaces, similarly created through a collaborative process, include the Homan Square Community Center, Grace Lutheran Fellowship Hall and Offices, and two new prototype Fieldhouses for the Chicago Park District.
George also has extensive experience managing the intricacies of historic renovation and adaptive reuse projects. Award-winning efforts include the renovation of Old St. Patrick’s Church, on the National Register of Historic Places; the Circuit Court of Cook County, a LEED silver certified facility adapted from an old warehouse building and recognized by the AIA Academy for Architecture for Justice; and the Bank of America Theater/Majestic Hotel, recognized with a Chicago Landmark Award for Preservation Excellence among many other accolades.
As a Director, George has led numerous initiatives in staff recruitment and development that have strengthened the firm’s technical and design capabilities. A member of the American Institute of Architects and the Education Committee of the Urban Land Institute, George was previously active with the Evanston Preservation Commission. He is also a member of the Board of the Directors for the non-profit organization In Search of Genius that provides access to science education to children in underserved areas. Awarded both his Bachelor of Arts and his Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois, George is a registered architect in Illinois, Georgia, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
