Directors / Principals

Charlie Stetson, AIA, LEED AP

A Principal and Director since 2001, Charlie joined Booth Hansen in 1996 following work at a number of Chicago’s leading architectural firms. Leveraging his extensive experience with building detailing and constructability, Charlie focuses on developing and maintaining the firm’s technical expertise, including the transition to Building Information Modeling software. As technical director, he collaborates with project teams, especially during the design development, construction document, and construction phases, to ensure documents are technically proficient and accurate.

Charlie’s technical expertise has been well utilized on challenging high-rise, commercial, and mixed-use projects that are shaping Chicago’s evolving skyline. The 35-story Joffrey Tower mixed-use high rise unifies a concrete condominium structure with long span steel retail base to create a dynamic new form, while luxury condominium building 30 West Oak utilizes exposed steel beams as both concrete formwork and a precise setting for the window wall. A sophisticated curtain wall defines MB Financial Bank’s flagship downtown branch, while the Dwight Building Student Residences integrates a historically-significant ten-story building with a new, modern structure.

Charlie received a Bachelor of Science in Design from Clemson University and a Master of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a registered architect in the state of Illinois, and a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Urban Land Institute. Charlie is licensed for Self-Certification Permitting by the City of Chicago Department of Construction and Permits, and is a licensed Energy Professional.
