Opportunity: On a property comprised of multiple parcels, the client wished to build a new home that would fit into the character of the neighborhood while taking full advantage of the site.
Solution: The design maintains the same established setbacks, cornice height, and window styles of the neighboring buildings, resulting in a reserved facade that is nonetheless stunning in its refinement. The proportions of the facade reference Irish Georgian-style homes of the client’s heritage.
The architecture and landscape were developed together to reinforce interior vistas and establish a series of rooms (inside and out) throughout the site, so that the facade gives way to an exhilirating spaciousness inside the front door. The light, lustrous interior color palette seen in abundant natural sunlight reinforces the continuity of the spaces as they lead back to garden terraces and views of green roofs.
Value: This home demonstrates the insertion of an expansive estate into a compact urban neighborhood. Behind a well-behaved facade, the residents enjoy comfortable spaces for day-to-day living as well as gracious entertaining.
