Opportunity: Developer Draper and Kramer envisioned a vibrant new identity for the Palmolive Building, an icon of Chicago’s rich architectural heritage since its original construction in 1929. Converting this office building into an exclusive residential condominium building required the creation of modern interiors that also reflect the elegance of the building’s Art Deco past.
Solution: Preservation of significant building details such as historic wood and stone carvings connected the modern refinement of the Deco period to a thoroughly contemporary definition of luxury. The well-appointed units offer spectacular views, while the first two floors feature high-end Michigan Avenue retail, commercial offices, and a private club for residents.
Value: Designated a Chicago Landmark in 2000 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, the Palmolive Building was recognized as Redevelopment of the Year for 2006 by the Commercial Real Estate Awards.
